Sports Update

Senior Cricket

On Tuesday 8 February, our senior cricket season kicked off! After winning the Division 2 grand final last year, our seniors have started 2022 in Division 1.

Our first game was against Thomas Carr College (TCC) and the team didn’t hold back winning 3/179 to 9/71.

Leading scorers for the day were: Darcy Bishop 50 runs, not out; Ethan Thewma 51 runs, not out; Max Hoey 36 runs.

Special mention to Johnathon Wills who bowled three wickets for six runs over four overs. Spectacular effort!

The highlight of the match was the outstanding sportsmanship shown by Max Hoey (Year 10) and Darcy Bishop (Year 12) who supported a TCC student who hadn’t played before.

Well done to the boys and we wish them luck for their next four games.

Senior Netball

Our senior girls netball team also began their season last week, playing their first game against Mackillop College at Eagle Stadium in Werribee.

The girls played well throughout the game but unfortunately fell short of a win.

Special mention to our Year 10 students, Mia Hayes, Ava Holt, Annabelle Tomac and Lauren Martin who stepped up this week to fill the senior squad. The team will play Salesian College in the next round.

Year 10 Premier League

For the first in CRC Melton’s history, we have entered the Year 10 Premier League competition for seven weeks of Term 1. A huge thank you to the SACCSS Executive Board and our Principal Mrs Marlene Jorgenson for providing our students with another amazing sporting opportunity.

After missing out on playing an entire season of Premier League in 2020 and 2021, our Year 10 students were very excited to get out and represent the College last week.

Here is a wrap up of the results:

Netball: CRC Melton def Caroline Springs 30-7

Girls Basketball: TCC def CRC Melton 38-18

Boys Basketball A: TCC def CRC Melton 61-24

Boys Basketball B: CRC Melton and TCC drew 41-41

Girls Volleyball: CRC Melton def Caroline Chisholm 3-1

Boys Volleyball: CRC Melton def Caroline Chisholm 3-0

Girls Soccer: Caroline Springs def CRC Melton 11-0

Boys Soccer: Caroline Springs def CRC Melton 5-4

Congratulations to our netball and volleyball teams who came home with a win. One of the day’s highlights came from Saidi Alumbulwa who kicked three of our four goals in boys soccer. Well done Saidi!

Good luck to all teams in their Round 2 games this week.
