Pathways Education

The Pathways Department at St Francis Catholic College offers a range of programs and services designed to support our students’ career development.

It aims to facilitate a smooth progression through secondary education and from secondary school to further education or employment.

Its mission is to give students access to information and opportunities to help them grow as individuals so that they feel confident in making decisions that lead them to appropriate post-secondary education, training, and employment pathways.

The Pathways Department offers the following services and programs:

• The Careers Resource Centre, which has current literature on courses, pathway options, apprenticeships/traineeships and careers events

• Assistance with subject selection and course counselling

• Work Experience/Work Placement

• Incursions and excursions focused on career development, including Tertiary Information Session and VCE & Careers Expo.

• Assistance with job applications

• Individual pathway planning appointments

• VTAC presentations and assistance with applications and change-of-preference interviews

• Careers newsletters that include job vacancies and apprenticeship opportunities. These are made available on the College careers website.

The College careers website contains information students and parents can access regarding post-school options, workplace learning, jobs, careers and resources to support pathway planning.

It includes the pathways calendar of events, careers newsletter and links to many career planning websites. Students can also easily make appointments with careers staff via the website.

Students can use the Career Tools program to begin their pathway planning. Over time, they can develop an e-portfolio where all certifications and career-related information is stored.

Students complete a career action plan, resume and cover letter, and build their interview skills and knowledge of workplace health and safety.
