Year 8 Maths Games Day at PEGS

On the 29th of July, Megan Baselmans, Tenniel Tarabene, Bronwyn Ashman, Evana Miesen, Georgia Campbell, Vansh Narang, John Abela and Mitchell Fenton (Year 8's from MASP - More Able Students Program)  attended the 19th Statewide Mathematical Games Day held at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School in East Keilor. We competed in individual and group games and problem solving tasks against other schools.  The event was sponsored by MAV (The Maths Association of
Victoria), Cambridge, Oxford and Casio.
The top performing teams included Camberwell Grammar, Parade College and Methodist Ladies College. Our two teams achieved middle of the field amongst around 90 teams (2 teams of four students per school). All received certificates and badges.
Events like these help us link what often many students face in Mathematics. As Ranjana Srivastava, Oncologist, on Q & A Monday 3rd August said, “I couldn’t quite     figure out how rote-learning the 13 times tables …translated to building bridges and flying planes..”
